Celebrating 50+ Years of Hydrogeology at Birmingham

Hydrogeologists from across the UK and around the world recently gathered to celebrate more than 50 years of hydrogeology at the University of Birmingham. The reunion brought together alumni, researchers and practitioners to reconnect, share memories and reflect on the programme’s lasting contribution to groundwater science.

IAH British Chapter Chair Harriet Carlyle, a Birmingham alumna, described the event as a wonderful opportunity to catch up with former PhD students, post-doctoral researchers and professional colleagues, some of whom she had not seen for decades. She highlighted the strong sense of community within the hydrogeological profession and thanked the organisers for a brilliant day.

The event was a fitting celebration of Birmingham’s long-standing contribution to hydrogeology and the many careers and collaborations it has helped to inspire.
